25 Things to do while in isolation

Hey friends,
Many of you like myself are currently in self-isolation. This can get get very boring, lonely and depressing if we let it be. We need to train ourselves to focus on the positives instead of all the negatives. Use this time as an opportunity. Today I have decided to share with you twenty-five things you can do while being confined to your homes!

1. Read / Listen to an audiobook

How many times have we bought a book but it still sits on your shelf waiting to be read. Or have you thought to yourself, if only I have the time…. Well now you do. Read that book, listen to that audiobook. Take that time for yourself.

2. Home Workout

Exercise is so important and being confined to our homes can make that a little difficult, but not impossible. Find videos on YouTube or find blog posts. Learn something new like yoga or pilates. Put a workout together that’s tailored for you. Just remember to keep safety in mind while you do so.

3. Photos

If you, like myself and many others have 36879 photos maybe now is the time to put them all in a cute album. I recently did this and love the results. If you have the printer you could print them out. If you have any that you haven’t gotten around to putting in their frame yet (but also have the frame lying around) then now is the time to get on that. Another thing you can do is go through all the photos in your phone and delete all the unnecessary ones that you keep for now reason.

4. Scrapbooking

This can be another fun one, however you do have to have the stuff lying around the house. Many people are crafty by nature though so they would have the supplies and this would be a fun family project.

5. Learn a new language

Is there a language that you have always wanted to learn? There are so many resources online and through apps that can help you with that. I use Duolingo myself to top up my Irish language every now and then (as we don’t really use it nation wide) and I love it. Designate an hour or even half an hour everyday and you will be a pro in no time.

6. Dance

You can either learn a new type of dance or you can just dance for the fun of it. Turn up that music and dance, dance, dance. Not only is it a good form of exercise and release endorphins but its fun. What better reason is there to do something than that.

7. Colour

Colouring is not just for children. I love colouring even though I don’t do it that often. Now I guess I have more time for it. Its fun and stress relieving at the same time.

8. Paint

Now this can follow along the same lines as creating art or you can paint the inside walls of your house, your garden wall, the outside walls, the furniture, whatever you like!

9. Drawing /  Doodling

Believe it or not this can have the same therapeutic effect. This can be in a journal or sketch pad. Give it a go, you might enjoy it!

10. Cooking or Baking

Now that we are at home and have more time on our hands in means we can batch cook, be more creative and even bake sweet treats like cupcakes and brownies. Just make sure you are exercising too.

11.   Get those tasks done

You know the ones I’m talking about, the ones you didn’t have time for or put off but they still annoy you like washing the curtains or the windows, deep cleaning the pantry or fridge. Assign a time and date and get it done.

12. Write that book

Maybe you have always wanted to write a book but ‘never had the time’. Well now is the time to put pen to paper and see what happens. At the very least you will realise that writing a book is not for you but at least you won’t spend the rest of your life wondering what if.

13. Re-connect with friends

Now is the perfect to call those that you have been wanting to re-connect with or maybe you can strengthen the bond with the people you are already close with. Now is the perfect time. We all need a friend right now.

It is so easy to spend hours just chilling out watching TV but its fun to interact too. play a board game and make memories.

18. Make life goals list

This kind of goes along similar lines. Many of us don’t have a long term plan for our future, if you don’t then maybe you could take this extra time to really think where you would like your life to head in the next few years.

19. Learn a musical instrument

I suppose this one kind depends on you having a musical instrument lying around the house, but you would be surprised at how many people do! Maybe its guitar you have lying around that you promised yourself you would learn how to play or even a harmonica you got as secret santa gift a work. Give it a go, you might have a real talent for it!

20. Declutter

This is the perfect time to take stock of your home and everything in it! It’s time to get rid of all those things that have been taking up space but add no value to your life.

21. Have a picnic in your garden

If you are lucky enough to have a garden and a few hours of good weather then a picnic is a perfect idea. Nothing will change your perspective like changing your surroundings.

22. Have a pamper night

Theres nothing like a pamper night to make you refreshed and human again! Use that face mask or make your own, run that bubble bath, give yourself a mani / pedi, give your hair a treatment. Light those candles and make a night out of it! It’s sure to give you the little boost you need!

  1. So many good ideas! I am loving the scrapbook idea – I have so many photographs and have been putting off making a 'memory scrapbook' for ages now so I think NOW is the time to finally do it x

  2. Such great ideas! I still don’t have time for much myself with the isolation in place, as I’ve been fortunate to still be working (from home obviously!) But I definitely try to do a little something with those extra 2 hours a day that I used to spend driving, picking up kids, etc! Great post!
