5 Simple Things

1. DIY or Thrifting decor

Instead of running out to buy all your decor first have a think about what you could maybe DIY at home. The next option would be to have a look in your local thrift store. Not only will this save you a ton of money but it will be unique and good for the planet too!! If you do end up buying anything in a store it will be less than if you had started there originally.

Money Saved: All the money you will save by looking into alternative options rather than just going straight to a store to buy your Autumn home decor.

2. Borrowing

It is always a good idea to be a good neighbour and be a part of your community but I think as the weather gets colder, storms begin and the evening s are darker it seems more important to look out for each other. If you need something that could cost you alot but only for a short time, think about asking a neighbour to borrow that item. For example if you need a leaf blower or jet washer for your gutters. Why not borrow one off of a neighbour. You can always return the favor in the future or repay them by baking a batch of cookies for them or something.

Money Saved: All the money you would have spent on the new product when you don’t need to use it very often.

3. Use nature to decorate

This time of year you can use nature to decorate your home. You can use pine cones, leaves, twigs, straw, pumpkins, gourds, berries, conkers and so much more. Get creative and bring the outside in.

Money Saved: All the money you would have wasted buying the decorations instead of using items for nature.

4. Take advantage of natures beauty

This is the perfect time of year to spend time outside in nature. Autumn nature is so beautiful. Don’t waste it! Get out there in your wellies and go for a nature walk. Get your bike out and go for a cycle. Instead of spending money spend time out and about with your loved ones and your four-legged friends. It’s also a good form of free exercise.

Money Saved: All the money you save by spending your time out in nature for free.

5. Air dry before machine

This time of year it can be hard to always dry your clothes outside, especially here in Ireland anyway! My advice is try to cut it down as much as you can. If you have a spare room or a room you don’t use very often I suggest putting an airdryer in there. Put your laundry on it for a while and let it partly dry, then finish it off in the dryer. This will be much better for the environment and your machine as well. Just make sure you are not putting them in room you are in all the time because it is not good for you to be breathing in all that moisture all the time!

Money Saved: All the money that would have been spent drying your clothes in the dryer. Your machine will also last longer because you are not using it as often.

Here are just 5 simple things you can do to join the gobal effort to save the planet earth.

Please let me know in the comments if you decide to try out any of these changes or if you have any more ideas of your own! I would love to hear all about it!
